Security and governance

Evidence, compliance and authorization

Use reviewable evidence to support security decisions without confusing a generated document with an approval.

Security, compliance and authorization teams

What ADOM can help organize

ADOM includes workflows for security findings, control-related evidence and authorization preparation. The useful output is a reviewable record of the system, relevant checks, remaining gaps and responsible owners. Available artifacts and assessment scope should be confirmed for the specific engagement.

Keep the terms distinct

Keep the terms distinct
TermWhat it means in a review
EvidenceA record supporting a claim, with a known source, version, scope and date
AssessmentAn evaluation against defined criteria
FindingA gap or concern that needs a disposition
RemediationA change intended to address a finding, followed by verification
AuthorizationA decision made by the designated authority for a defined system and boundary

Review evidence quality

Ask which version and environment the evidence describes. Confirm whether a check was executed, which parts of the system it covered and whether the result is current. A generated narrative should be checked against supporting records; a missing or stale artifact should remain visible as a gap.

Record findings with an owner, severity or priority, intended action and verification result. A proposed fix is not the same as a verified correction, and a passing automated check does not cover risks outside its scope.

Discuss applicable frameworks accurately

Organizations may require review against NIST controls or programs such as FedRAMP or CMMC. The relevant scope and obligations must be established for the actual system and engagement. Framework support in a workflow does not make ADOM or a generated application automatically certified, compliant or authorized.

An Authority to Operate, when required, is granted by the responsible authorizing authority. ADOM can support preparation and organization of the material for that decision; the software does not grant an ATO.

Keep assurance current after release

Changes to code, configuration, integrations or the deployment boundary may affect previous evidence. Agree which changes trigger reassessment, who reviews findings and how unresolved risks are tracked. Include those responsibilities in the operational handoff.
